I want to create some large text, say 2 or 3 inches high. With previous vector-based editors, I would pick 144pt or 216pt to do this.

The text object seems to limit text to 127px.

I tried using the 3-D text tool by turning off the depth and stretching, but that seems to limit the object to 1600 px wide or so.

Do you have any suggestions? I might want some text 4 inches high. Think “I Survived” on the front of a t-shirt.

Hi,

Even though there is a limit on the font size of 127. Because text objects are vector objects, you can just scale up the object itself. This way you can set the size of the text as big as you want. So remember that vector objects can be scaled up without affecting the image quality. In contrary, when scaling raster objects such as pictures, it may get pixelated or blured. That will be the case when scaling a 3D text object because it is not a vector image.

So this is how you do it:

1. Create a text object. The Text size can be any. Leave edit mode by pressing “Finnish edit text” or by pressing the first tool icon.

2. Scale up the object by dragging the control rectangles on the page or by changing the width and height properties on the “Object panel”.

Tip: You can use the mouse to change any number input field. Just press on it and move up/down to change input field.

Thanks for the help. I see how I can scale the text when I grab the text. So I could set up the largest text to 72px, scale all other text relative to that, and then resize the whole thing so that it fits the space.

I am still having trouble knowing when I am editing text in the original native form, and when I am editing it in the final form.

I am also having trouble editing part of the text block. I could do it reliably two days ago, now I have lost my knack.Confused

Did you take a look at the tutorial videos? There is a video for making rich text: http://www.fatpaint.com/tutorials

Just press the “Rich text” link on the list box to view the video.

When you just want to work on parts of the text, you need to select the part with the mouse, just like other text editors. Each text part can have its own size, so make it the size you want this way and scale the whole thing up later.

You can also place text objects inside eachother.
