We set our selves for using only Fatpaint for making our new app design. Yesterday I started designing some panels and menus for the user interface, and during this process, I discovered a few things that need to be fixed:
1: Improve performance. The editor is too slow when working with 30+ objects. We identified some flaws that are slowing things down.
2: It is not optimal to have tool box panel on the left side, stretching down. On the new design, tools and parameters will be on the top of the screen. It's just to annoying to be moving the horizontal scroll bar all the time when working with large pages. It's easier/faster to scroll up and down with the mouse scroll button.
3: Make it faster to work with objects. Too much time is spent selecting the right object when there are many onthe page and they overlap. Also make easier to group objects/wrap them inside a panel or another graphical object for easier manipulation. And lastly implement actions for moving objects “To Front” and “To Back”.
While making the new UI design, we are definitely finding quite a few usability problems with Fatpaint that need to be fixed.
At the end of this process, Fatpaint will become much better and more fitted for making webpage design, thats for sure.
Anyway, even tough Fatpaint have these flaws now, we are managing to do our work with the design, just not as fast as we want to.
Do you also have something you would like to add/change on Fatpaint?
